Texas Tech administrators looking into Twitter video

Posted: Updated:

A video circulating on Twitter has prompted Texas Tech administrators to look into COVID-19 parties.

The video is recording another phone displaying a Snap-chat video of a woman claiming to have COVID-19 and partying with her friends. Click here - to watch it (NSFW language). Though the Tweet states "What's happening at Texas Tech", there is nothing in the short clip clearly identifying the woman as a Tech student.

President Lawrence Schovanec has said Tech and Lubbock Police are monitoring for these kinds of gatherings on and off the campus. Under state and city COVID-19 restrictions, the mayor's approval is needed for gatherings of more than 10 people.

Schovanec says stopping these gatherings is essential to slowing the spread within the university. Last week he announced administrators are already deliberating a two-week campus closure, which would move all classes to virtual.

In a letter to students, faculty and staff, Schovanec said he was disappointed in how quickly the virus is transmitting through the campus.
