'Empty the Shelters' Saturday at Lubbock Animal Shelter

Posted: Updated:

There are about 150 pets at Lubbock Animal Services waiting for a new home. Saturday is Clear the Shelters, a nationwide event.

In Lubbock it's 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3323 SE Loop 289.

Because of COVID-19, staff will be following safety protocols. Adoption paperwork will be filled out from visitors' vehicles.

"All these shelter dogs have been, been through it so whether they've been abandoned or they been cruelty mistreated, they deserve a second chance," said Pedro Ortiz with Lubbock Animal Services.

"Coming out to an event like this, or just coming down in general just to look around at the shelter even just to adopt, it gives those who don't have a voice an opportunity, you know to find a new home."

If you can't make it out Saturday, the shelter is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. You can also help by donating food, toys, newspaper, blankets and mini pools.
