LUBBOCK, Texas -

"Feeling awesome it is really great to be back. Flippers has been like my family that I found here in town," manager Simone See said.

Over the weekend, Flippers tavern re-opened.

The eclectic bar on Avenue Q, known for its nostalgic knick-knacks and pinball machines temporarily closed earlier this month.

Even with alcohol to-go sales, it was not enough to stay in the game, at the time.

"The amount of money that we were making off of that it was just, not feasible for staying open," See explained.

It was hard not seeing regulars, but even harder for her to know their work family could be without jobs.

"We truly care about everybody that works here, not allowing them to work anymore was really heartbreaking," she said.

They promised they would not be gone too long.

Now, with a new food and beverage certificate from the TABC the entire team is back to work.

"TABC has finally let everyone know what they can and can't do. 'Cause for a while it was just a gray area," See said.

In order to meet regulations, customers will now be required to buy food, like a bag of chips starting after 2 drinks.

"We're also getting food in people's bellies and they're able to drink more, honestly it's a little bit safer."

Upping the food sales is not the only thing they are doing different.

Temperature checks at the front door, no hanging out at the bar and a "zero tolerance for tomfoolery."

Under the new guidelines, bar seating is closed until further notice

"It was just that... enforcing of the rules that nobody really wanted to step up and do. It's tough. It's even tough now, this is our fourth day open and we've already had a few people that are just like 'why do I have to do this?'" See said.

But even with the changes, she says, it is still the same downtown spot people know and love.

"Our motto or slogan is 'fun for all.' Anyone is welcome to our corner."
