Lubbock ISD kicks off new Teacher Incentive Allotment program

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Even though they don't do it for the money, teachers at Lubbock ISD have more incentive to excel in the classroom.

The district will recognize 86 high preforming educators with its Teacher Incentive Allotment program. For the next five years, they'll be designated as masters, exemplary, or recognized, each one coming with a pay bump.

Those bonuses range from about $3,500 to more than $25,000 a year. The teachers say the fact it's a five year plan, rewards commitment and reflects on the students too.

"Kids are kids and kids are gonna do what kids are gonna do, but we show up every day and do what we're supposed to do to the best of our ability with whatever changes come our way every day for years and years and years to come," McKenzie Middle School teacher Kelsie Dreiling said.

Lubbock ISD is the only district in this region participating in the inaugural program.
