CLOVIS, New Mexico -

Two men were arrested after firing shots at officers during a police chase in Clovis.

A New Mexico State Police officer tried to initiate a traffic stop on State Road 467 when police say the vehicle fled turning east onto Curry Road 6.

Investigators say the passenger began throwing objects out of the car. The vehicle made a right turn into a cornfield near the intersection of Curry Road 6 and Curry Road K. According to police, the driver, Joseph Leyva, and passenger, Patricio Gilman, got out and fled on foot. Officers located two handguns inside the vehicle and determined one of them was stolen.

Dashcam video shows Leyva and Gilman fired shots at the officer during the chase. Through the investigation, a total of five firearms were seized and two reported as stolen.

Leyva and Gilman were arrested and book on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
