LUBBOCK, Texas -

From Lubbock Habitat for Humanity:

Lubbock Habitat will conduct a press conference Wednesday, August 26th at 3 p.m. at their construction site located at 404 N. Guava to receive a contribution to their 2020 Blitz Build which will help fund a home this year and additional Blitz homes for four years to come. Local attorney Ted Liggett will present a check for $100,000 to Lubbock Habitat as a Cornerstone sponsor and challenge others to match his gift of $25,000 every Blitz for four years. The Habitat 2020 Blitz Build is scheduled for Sept. 7 -16th. Lubbock Habitat is attempting to build two homes in ten days. At the press conference, the Habitat construction and logistics team will also discuss the COVID-19 safety plan to ensure the build is safe and successful, despite the ongoing pandemic.

Lubbock Habitat wants to emphasize how they will be putting safety first by following all COVID-19 guidelines. Lubbock Habitat Executive Director, Christy Reeves, says, “From masks, to temperature checks, to hand sanitizer and social distancing, everyone participating in this project will be taking all precautions just like other construction sites.”

Two local families are getting their “sweat equity” hours required and are planning to close on the two Blitz homes when they have completed the Lubbock Habitat program. Reeves says, “We are so excited about the two amazing families who will own these Blitz homes. These families are working hard going through the Habitat program, and cannot wait to close and pay an affordable mortgage once the houses and their “sweat equity” hours are complete. “

Lubbock Habitat is still looking for sponsorships and recruiting volunteers. Reeves says, “If any business, individual, church, or organization can assist with donations or time, we still need help. The more community support, the better.”
