KK BRYAN HAS SERVED THE LUBBOCK COMMUNITY FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. AFTER LEAVING THE AIR FORCE, BRYAN WORKED AS DISPATCHER FOR LUBBOCK POLICE BEFORE BECOMING A COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR FOR D.P.S. SHE'S MADE quite AN IMPACT ON HER COWORKERS.

"It's always good when she is in here so we can see her..." Sgt. Johnny Bures says, "...you know it's going to be a good time and we'll have some laughs and stuff like that. But when it got time to be serious and get to work, she was professional and I know she had my back out there."

"She is a go getter. She is very Type-A personality..." says Jacquline Blair, "But she's amazing, absolutely amazing."

HOWEVER, IN JULY OF 2017, BRYAN WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER.

"KK's always been healthy. She was always working out..." says Bures, "She was always eating right; and to hear when she got sick, that this is what was going on, it hit us all."

"It's been really hard because KK is very strong willed and is a very strong person..." Blair says, "To see her be so down physically and struggle with this is very disheartening to everybody."

BRYAN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO WORK, FOCUSING ON HER TREATMENT FOR OVER A YEAR. BUT THOSE CLOSEST TO HER KNOW SHE IS EAGER TO GET BACK ON THE RADIO.

"She just puts herself out there even though she's not ready to come back physcially; her mind is ready." says Blair, "She's ready to work from home; just ready for whatever we can give her to do."

THE DEPARTMENT HAS HOSTED TWO FUNDRAISERS TO SHOW ITS SUPPORT AND HELP EASE SOME OF BRYAN'S BURDEN. THEY HAVE RAISED MORE THAN A THOUSAND DOLLARS SELLING SPECIAL t-SHIRTS.

"They say 'give cancer the KK knockout' with boxing gloves...." Tabitha Fugate says, "I think that just really embodies her personality. They are 20 dollars each. All of the proceeds, one hundred percent of them will go to her to help with those medical bills."

HER COWORKERS SAY THEY WANT TO GIVE HER A FIGHTING CHANCE.

"KK takes care of her own, she takes care of us still." says Blair, "We take care of her and I always call her my hero. She is our hero."
