One killed after major crash on U.S. 84 Thursday morning

LUBBOCK, Texas -

One person has died after a crash on U.S. 84 between Slaton and Lubbock early Thursday morning. 

DPS reports Juan Gabriel Luera, 42, of Slaton was traveling northwest on U.S. 84 in the inside lane. A second vehicle entered the highway from the east side of the roadway and started traveling northwest in the inside lane. 

The front of Luera's vehicle collided with the rear of the second car, according to DPS. After the collision, both cars traveled a short distance northwest and came to rest in the inside lane. 

Luera died at the scene and was not wearing his seatbelt. 

The driver of the second vehicle, Ryan Frank Salinas, 24, and passenger Isaiah Matthew Sandoval, 25, were not injured in the crash and medically cleared on scene.
