Texas Assoc. of Business announces 'Keep Texas Moving'

LUBBOCK -

Lubbock will play a key role in improving the state's most grid-locked roadways in Texas. The Texas Association of Business announced its Keep Texas Moving initiative, with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce.

In the next 20 years TAB expects 12.5 million more Texans, bringing the state's population above 40 million by 2040.

TAB reports this growth is outpacing the state's investment into its roads. It is calling for public-private partnerships to expand road construction. The group states this would spur job growth and save taxpayers money.

"The Lubbock Chamber supports public-private partnerships where feasible, which tends to be in larger metro areas than we have in West Texas," Kyle Jacobson with the Chamber said.

"But if such partnerships are able to free up additional public funds that can be used on a project like I-27 -- which will bring commerce to West Texas while relieving congestion and enhancing safety along the I-35 corridor -- it would certainly be a worthwhile investment for our state."

A TAB-sponsored survey found 72 percent of registered Texan voters support these improvements.
