Loop ISD football player tests positive for COVID-19

GAINES COUNTY, Texas -

A Loop ISD football player tested positive for the coronavirus Monday Superintendent Heath Blackmon confirmed. 

Loop is about an hour southwest of Lubbock. Gaines County health officials were notified immediately. 

The district has required all football players, coaches and mangers to quarantine for the mandated 10-day period. All parents of the players have also been notified. 

The player who tested positive will be in quarantine for at least 14 days depending on his recovery. 

Superintendent Heath Blackmon issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon: 

Loop ISD has been notified that a student athlete participating in football has tested positive for COVID 19. We were notified of the positive test on Monday afternoon and immediately contacted the Gaines County health officials. Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff, and we are following all protocols necessary to protect them at this time. The football players, coaches and managers have been quarantined for the mandated 10-day period and all parents of the players have been notified. The young man will be in quarantine for at least 14 days depending on his recovery and doctor's orders. Loop ISD administrators met with their staff to notify them of the situation and recommended they follow all CDC and TEA guidelines. Our prayers are with the young man and his family and we continue to pray for our staff, students, and families.
