Friday: City reports 59 new positive COVID-19 cases; 1,659 active cases in Lubbock County

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock health department reported 59 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 122 more recoveries Friday. No additional deaths were confirmed, with the number of people who've died from the virus remaining at 80.

There are now 1,659 active cases, with 4,279 confirmed cases now listed as recovered. 6,018 people have been infected with the virus in our county since mid-March.

887 tests were administered today, for a total of 75,529 tests processed since the start of the pandemic. Out of those, 7,652 have tested positive, including people from other counties who came here for testing, for an overall positivity rate of 10.1%. There are 1,327 tests pending results.

There are 107 people hospitalized -- four more than yesterday. Of those, 57 are in specialized intensive care and 50 others are "floor patients."
