LUBBOCK, Texas -

A police chase that started near Brownfield ended in a crash at the intersection of 98th and Frankford Ave. Thursday afternoon.

Police say a Brownfield officer pulled over 36-year-old Billy Clayton, of New Mexico, for a traffic violation. When the officer returned to his patrol vehicle to check his information, that's when police say Clayton took off and a pursuit ensued.

According to DPS, while being chased, Clayton attempted to throw items out of the vehicle. Police say as Clayton approached the intersection he failed to yield the right of way, colliding with a trailer being towed by a Ford pickup causing the trailer to crash into another vehicle.

One person was taken to UMC with minor injuries.

Investigators say the vehicle driven by Clayton had been reported stolen to the Lubbock Police Department.

Clayton was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. The Brownfield Police Department will handle filing further charges against Clayton.
