LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock will honor wounded veterans and service members on Friday.

Lubbock city council will observe National Purple Heart Day. The city asks everyone to wear purple and fly American flags to honor the men and women who've sacrificed for their country.

"The Purple Heart recipient who's learning how to walk again, how to talk again, how to live again. Those Purple Heart recipients who wear the scar of battle every day -- this is who we did it for," Commander for Veterans of Foreign Wars Benny Guerrero said.

The city will also dedicate it's Monument of Courage.

"We pass them every day, so we tend to forget that they paid a price for our freedom," Steve Oien, with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said, "but we need to remember that."
