LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech softball team gained a valuable asset to the infield as head coach Adrian Gregory announced the addition of South Carolina transfer Ellie Bailey on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Bailey will be immediately eligible for the 2021 season.
"We are thrilled to add Ellie Bailey to our program," Gregory exclaimed. "She is a Texas kid that is coming home and there is nothing better than that! Ellie will add a strong offensive power to our roster and give us much needed depth to our corner positions. We are excited to get her here and get to work!"
Bailey finished a shortened freshman campaign with 11 appearances and two starts in the infield for the Gamecocks. The Whitewright, Texas, native collected two hits and posted a .278 on-base percentage.
She picked up the first hit of her career on Feb. 13 against the Red Raiders at the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational and she tallied her first career run against NC Central on Feb. 19. Bailey drew three walks and finished the season with a spotless 1.000 fielding percentage.
A standout at Tom Bean High School, Bailey was named the 2018 District 13-2A Offensive Player of the Year, selected to the All-Texomaland Team, earned TGCA All-State recognition and was named to the TSWA First-Team. She was named the District 13-2A Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and picked up District 13-2A Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman in 2016. Bailey hit .480 or better in each of her four seasons, including a .642 batting average with a whopping 39 RBI during her junior year.
The daughter of Heather and James Bailey, Ellie has two siblings – Annie and Chauk.
