The effort to recall Mayor Barbra Pinner in Levelland has failed. City Secretary Andrea Corley reports the petition did not meet the requirement of 642 verified signatures from registered voters. The documents submitted Monday had 468 unverified signatures. The result is there will not be a recall election.
Pinner was criticized for a Facebook post she shared in June which claimed to be written by an 83-year-old black man that explained the differences between people who are Black and people who are "n*****s." The slur was used numerous times in the post. Pinner later apologized and said it was a mistake to post it.
After meeting with constituents and maintaining she would not step down, some of them started an effort to remove her from office. They argued she could no longer serve the citizens of Levelland after offending so many of them.
