LUBBOCK, Texas -

From Lubbock Habitat for Humanity:

Lubbock Habitat will hold a media event Wednesday, August 5th at 2 p.m. at their construction site located at 404 N. Guava to update the community on their 2020 Blitz Build. The Blitz is still scheduled for Sept. 7 -16th. Lubbock Habitat is attempting to build two homes in ten days.

Lubbock Habitat wants to emphasize how they will be putting safety first by following all COVID-19 guidelines. Lubbock Habitat Executive Director, Christy Reeves, says, “Everyone participating in this project will be taking all safety precautions.”

Many local companies, churches and organizations are supporting the Blitz Build with donations and offers to volunteer. Volunteer committees and Habitat staff have been working together to finalize the logistics and construction details. Lubbock Habitat is still in need of sponsorships and volunteers. Reeves says, “If any business, individual, church, or organization can assist with donations or time, we need the help!”

Normally, it takes eight months to build one home, but Lubbock Habitat hopes to defy the odds and build two homes in the short span of ten days. Reeves says, “This is such an exciting time for Lubbock Habitat as we bring back the Blitz Build. It has been more than a decade since we conducted a blitz.”

The pre build work for the Blitz will take place during Lubbock Habitat’s Red Raider Week which takes place August 17th-21st. Lubbock Habitat and their student chapter is recruiting Texas Tech students to come out and help that week to do Blitz preparations. Texas Tech housing will not be able to recruit and send students out on buses this year due to COVID-19, but the student chapter hopes many students will choose to volunteer on their own.

In addition to the Blitz, Lubbock Habitat continues to operate the ReStore and is also planning their first casual gala event called Hard Hats & Heels which is scheduled for spring 2021 at the American Windmill Museum.
