updated 9:05 p.m. - We picked up some good, soaking rain in parts of the area this afternoon and evening. Here are some of the top rain totals today on the Texas Tech Mesonet:

And the rain fell pretty quickly. Now showers and storms are near Snyder and Sweetwater, moving SE. We could see a few more showers and storms move in early in the morning.
Storms are moving from NW to SE.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the eastern South Plains and Rolling Plains until 11 p.m. (7/30/20). The main concern is damaging wind gusts to 70mph, though some hail will also be possible. The watch is for areas in green below, including Floyd, Motley, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Garza and Kent counties.
Storms will spread across parts of the area late this afternoon into this evening, developing along a front. Another round of storms will be possible late tonight. Low tonight near 67.
TOMORROW: Not as warm, chance for a storm. High near 89. Wind N/NE 5-12mph.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Not too hot over the weekend, with a low chance for a storm Saturday. The storm chance looks a little better Sunday night into early Monday. And it should turn a little cooler Monday, before hotter weather late next week.
