LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock police responded to reports of shots fired near 43rd street and Ave. N Tuesday morning. Police say while in route, officers received a call that a victim with a gunshot wound had been dropped off at Grace Clinic on 50th and University.

Sharif Hakim, 19, Shuaib Hakim, 24 and Rafiq Akubar, 19 were arrested in connection to the shooting at the Village Square Apartments.

The suspect vehicle that dropped the victim off was located and stopped near 50th and Ave Q. During that time, police say another call came in for reports of two suspects that entered an apartment near 65th and Ave. T and shot at a man inside.

Officers determined the two calls were related and investigators say the victim was dropped off at Grace Clinic by the two suspects involved in the apartment shooting.

The victims told police they were inside their apartment when the suspects entered and began shooting at them. Investigators say in defense, the woman struck one of the suspects with a machete. The suspects then fled the scene where they dropped off the victim.

The couple told police they believe the suspect may have accidentally shot himself during the incident.

Both individuals with gunshot wounds were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Investigators have not specified how the three suspects were involved.
