WEDNESDAY: One new death, 113 new cases; 2,233 now active in Lubbock County

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock reported its 68th death Wednesday due to COVID-19, along with 113 new positive test results and 85 more recoveries.

Recoveries continue to outpace active cases in Lubbock County, after a month of falling behind. There are now 2,233 active cases, with 2,468 confirmed cases now listed as recovered; that means there were at least ten days of symptoms followed by three days without them.

Since mid-March, the City of Lubbock has identified 4,769 cases of COVID-19.

There were 951 new tests administered Wednesday, for a total of 60,257 since mid-March. Out of those, 5,673 have tested positive -- including people from other counties who came here for testing -- for an overall positivity rate of 9.4%.

12 more people were hospitalized as of Wednesday, for a total of 113. Out of those, 47 are in specialized intensive care. Available beds continue to dwindle, with just about 400 open for treatment. The South Plains is one region in Texas still allowed to perform elective procedures.
