TAPPS delays start of Texas high school football season

TEXAS -

TAPPS, Texas' largest private school league, announced Friday its football season will be delayed five weeks.

The league's football season was set to begin August 3 with strength and conditioning training. The first games were scheduled for August 27.

With the schedule now pushed back more than a month, strength and conditioning drills may begin September 8 followed by two weeks of practices and a scrimmage period beginning September 21.

The decision comes amid rising COVID-19 cases across the state and tensions about the reopening of schools.
