A Lubbock man is in the hospital with critical injuries after investigators say he was shot for pointing a gun at law officers Thursday.
Chase Roundtree, 33, is accused of driving a stolen semi on U.S. 82 and shooting at other vehicles in Knox County, about 120 miles east of Lubbock. A state trooper and the Knox County Sheriff stopped the truck.
They report Roundtree stepped out of the vehicle with a gun. He refused the officers' commands. Then, they report, he raised the gun. This is when the sheriff and trooper shot him. The law officers were not hurt.
Once released from the hospital, Roundtree will face a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer. This carries a penalty of up to life in prison.
A passenger in the truck, Mychele Mendez, 30, of Lubbock will face a charge of vehicle theft. The DPS reports other charges may be filed.
