Attorney Douglas Freitag defeated assistant district attorney Tom Brummett in the Republican primary runoff for the 140th District Court. It mainly deals with felony cases.
Freitag says he intends to overcome the pandemic and get the justice system back to some semblance of normal.
"At this point, with the way things have been shut down, through courts statewide -- no jury trials since March," Freitag said. "Current guidance says none are allowed until September 1st at the earliest. Realistically, we're talking late September, early October probably. What we want to do is we want to get in and start working hard as soon as we can."
There was no Democrat primary for this judgeship. Presiding Judge Jim Bob Darnell is retiring. We profiled the careers of Judge Darnell and 99th District Court Judge Bill Sowder in November.
