Procession for Lynn County Sheriff Vega to be held Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lynn County Sheriff Abraham Vega will be escorted to Lubbock on Wednesday from Dallas. Sheriff Vega died Saturday after weeks of battling COVID-19. 

The procession will leave at 10 a.m. and travel through Tahoka then to Lubbock where he will be taken to Resthaven Funeral Home. The route to Resthaven will be from Hwy 87 to Loop 289, traveling west and exiting on 19th Street. The procession is schedule to be in Tahoka around 3 p.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m in Lubbock. 

Services for Sheriff Vega will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 17, at the Tahoka football field.

Lynn County Judge Mike Braddock says the county has not yet appointed an interim sheriff, but expects a decision by next week. The appointment will be made by the Lynn County Commissioners and will fill the office until a new sheriff is elected. 

Candidates who wish to run for office have until August 13 to file to be on the November ballot.
