LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock County Expo Center has a big boost thanks to a local family.

The Taylor family donated $1 million, citing multiple benefits -- including the responsibilities FFA teaches and the need for this kind of center.

The project's treasurer says there are multiple sources going into the expo center, including private donations like the Taylor family's.

"Our center's going to be funded on hotel and motel tax and car rental tax. That's only going to generate, we think, around $42 to $45 million in proceeds. We want -- the total project's going to cost us about $50 million, so we're going to have to raise some outside money," Bret Lamkin, Lubbock County Expo Center Treasurer, said. "We've already raised the $10 endowment money. So for us, were going to need anything from $8 to $15 million, or maybe even $20 million more."

Lamkin says although COVID-19 has slowed down work on funding and building, he believes it won't stop what they are looking to accomplish.

He adds no matter how big or small the amount, all donations are greatly appreciated.
