More extreme heat today, low rain chances through Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Yesterday we not only broke the days warmest morning low, but we also broke the record high of 110. Not much has changed for today with highs around the same and a likely beating the old record of 108, with a mostly sunny sky.
Current Temperature

There will be a chance for isolated showers and storms with a few locations to pick up some rain starting later in the afternoon. Southwesterly wind stays a light breeze 10-15mph, if showers develop some wind gusts may increase.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with the low near 77, this would tie the warmest morning low for the day.

WEDNESDAY: A weak front will be placed across West Texas and this will help with the development of showers and storms. Some may be strong to severe especially into the Amarillo area and out far northern counties. This again will develop late into the afternoon and evening hours. Most of the area again continues to stay dry and hot with the high nearing 103.

EXTENDED: Things will turn dry and not as hot going into the weeks end. The strong ridge of high pressure that brought this extreme heat will weakening as it moves across our area. Highs will be dropping to the upper 90s... still hot but a cool down from what we are experiencing today. Morning lows also to drop with more lower and mid 70s.

Have a great Tuesday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
