Very hot temperatures continue with warm nights

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Although a storm moved through the city yesterday the airport didn't record any rain, near Tech only picked up 0.01". The chance for an isolated shower or storm again can not be ruled out today. Most of our area will stay dry and hot with the high nearing 104. Southerly wind a light breeze 10-18mph, and some wind gusts may increase if we get some storms cells developing.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with the low near 80 again. The warmest low on record is 81 degrees and we have been close that last few mornings.

WEEKEND: If you are planning on being outdoors at all this weekend make sure you are prepared to deal with the heat. Temperatures will continue in the 104 to 110 range across our area. Sunday a front will be in our area and may provide a "cool down" with temperatures dropping some, but only one model is showing this where as others are keeping us hot. Also, later Sunday some showers and storm may move out of New Mexico and move into the northern Panhandle possibility into our area. Again doesn't look promising for wide spread rain, but more something to watch .

NEXT WEEK: The hottest days in this heat wave will likely be Monday and Tuesday as highs climb to near 110. This will likely be some new record highs and low temperatures continue near that 80 degree range which might break the warmest record too. Wind speeds to look to increase for some breezy days starting Monday with some cloud cover. Temperature look to drop to the upper 90s by the end of next week.

Have a great Friday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
