LUBBOCK, Texas -

United Healthcare is donating more than $1 million in empowering health grants to eight community-based organizations in Texas.

Lubbock's South Plains Food Bank is set to receive $175,000. Mental Health America and Baker-Ripley in Houston will receive $190,000 and $150,000.

The donations are part of $12.3 million in health grants being spread across 21 states. More than half of those grants will help organizations increase their capacity to fight COVID-19 and support communities impacted by the virus.

Grants will assist individuals and families experiencing challenges from social distancing, food insecurity, social isolation and behavioral health issues.
