LUBBOCK, Texas -

News release:

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity will be having a Homeowner Workshop Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at H.O.M.E. ministries located at 406 Zenith Ave.

H.O.M.E. ministries works toward helping others move emotionally and economically. They provide programmatic service in education, health, and wellness, and economic empowerment. The founder of the ministry, Sandra Chatham says “We help neighborhoods by providing the needs of each household and by restoring our community. We are pleased to work with Lubbock Habitat to change lives.” The collaboration of Habitat for Humanity and H.O.M.E. ministries is the perfect match for a workshop because they have similar visions and seek to help people become homeowners.

The Homeowner Workshop will explain the Habitat application process. Applications are available online, at the workshop, and at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 8004 Indiana, Suite B8 which is open from 10am-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday. The workshop comes with a certificate of completion that’s good for up to one year if you stay the entire time. This certificate is required to move forward with the Habitat program.

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Encouraging individuals to attend this workshop is the first step toward achieving that vision. Habitat for Humanity’s program offers potential homeowners a hand-up, not a hand out. Homeowners are considered according to their need, ability to pay a no-interest mortgage, and willingness to partner with Lubbock Habitat. Once homeowners enter the program, they must attend educational classes on topics such as financial literacy and assist with construction of their own house.

Lubbock Habitat wants to emphasize how they will be putting safety first by following all COVID-19 guidelines. Reeves says, “Everyone participating in this workshop will be taking all safety precautions.” Therefore, face coverings are encouraged and masks as well as hand sanitizer will be provided. Additionally, the number of people allowed at the workshop will be limited due to social distancing restrictions.
