Vitalant calls for more blood donations after holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Vitalant needs more blood donations after the holiday weekend.

The non-profit blood service provider is short on stock due to the summer season and COVID-19. With more crashes and elective surgeries, the region's supply is decreasing. Plus, as more citizens are going back out fewer people are donating, contributing to the shortage.

Staff emphasize the donation process is completely safe.

"We want to make sure that they understand its a very safe thing to do and its a very easy thing to do," Senior Recruitment Manage Brandon Baker said. "If you have about 45 minutes of your time, if you are feeling well and healthy, we encourage you to come donate blood or plasma depending on what your blood type is. Because your local community really needs it right now."

Vitalant is also searching for businesses to host blood drive to help with the community need.
