Tuesday: One new death, 178 new cases, 25 new recoveries; now 1,310 active cases

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock reported its 52nd death Tuesday, as well as a record high 178 new cases of COVID-19 in Lubbock County. 

There are now 1,310 active cases, with a total of 911 recoveries from confirmed cases since mid-March. Eleven more patients were hospitalized for treatment.

Out of the total 2,273 cases confirmed in Lubbock County since tracking began, more than two-in-five are people ages 20-29.

There were 1,252 new tests administered in Lubbock County Tuesday, for a total of 39,328 since mid-March. Out of those, 2,846 have confirmed positive, including people traveling from other counties for testing. That carries a positivity rate of 7.2 percent.

There are 52 people hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment in Lubbock -- 22 are in specialized intensive care units, while 30 others are considered "floor patients." The city reports hospital capacity has dipped again, now below 500 open beds for treatment.
