Shearer's Foods confirms first COVID-19 case at Lubbock facility

Posted: Updated:

News release from Shearer's Foods:

Shearer’s Foods has confirmed that a team member in their Lubbock manufacturing location has tested positive for COVID-19. No one else in the facility has been diagnosed. The company’s significant safety precautions, requiring social distancing, providing and mandating masks and enhanced sanitation has made a difference in containing exposure.

The safety of the Shearer’s products, employees, and community remains their top priority. Shearer’s has taken all necessary steps to identify and notify individuals who worked closely with the team member diagnosed with COVID-19 and have asked them to self-quarantine at home for a period of 14 days. The team member did not come in contact with product and there is no food safety risk. People who have been asked by the company to stay at home in quarantine, under an abundance of caution, will continue to receive pay and benefits during their quarantine period.

Shearer’s continues the practice of taking temperatures of team members before they enter the building for work, and strictly following social distancing, enhanced sanitation and PPE/masks requirements. In fact, Shearer’s has benchmarked their Coronavirus protocols against best practice and are doing more than most of the world’s largest companies to protect their team members.

As a result, the facility remains open and the company has conducted a deep cleaning of the contacted areas and equipment based on CDC guidelines and using EPA-approved registered products for COVID-19.
