LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock health department confirmed 68 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 1,984. Of those, 1,103 are active, the most active number of cases in a single day.

The health department reported no new recoveries, where the number of recoveries remains at 830. 51 deaths have been attributed to the virus.

There have been 36,955 tests administered in Lubbock. Of those, 2,559 have come back positive with 88 tests pending. There were 1,024 additional tests conducted since yesterday. The positive rate of tests is now at 6.9 percent. The number of tests administered following the surge in cases has caused a shortage of tests at UMC's drive-thru screening site, causing it to close. It will permanently close after Saturday, June 27.

Six new hospitalizations were reported. 43 people are hospitalized with 24 floor patients and 19 in the ICU.

There remains ample available hospital capacity, with fewer than 500 beds available.
