Heritage Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center breaks ground on renovations

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A nursing home in our area broke ground on major renovations despite COVID-19.

Heritage Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was set to undergo a full remodel in May, but plans stalled due to the pandemic.

Nursing home have seen some of the hardest hit facilities. Residents in those homes are at the most risk of catching life-threatening cases of the virus.

Now organizers with Heritage Oaks are finding ways to update the center while keeping residents safe.

"We've begun doing work outside the building by repainting, updating the signage and doing some parking lot work," Senior Living Properties CEO Cassie Mistretta said. "Slowly over time we're going to be able to do one hall at a time that's blocked off so residents will never be exposed to outside contract workers. We're really excited for the team and we're hoping that we continue to do a great job managing through the coronavirus."

The facility has not had any positive cases of the virus so far. Mistrett says safety will be the most important aspect of the remodel going forward.
