Tuesday: Lubbock at 1,547 COVID-19 cases; 825 active; 671 recoveries and 51 deaths

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock health department confirmed 140 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to 1,547. Of those, 825 cases are active. 

This is a record number for both additional cases and tests in a single day locally.

The health department also reported 51 additional recoveries, with the total number of recoveries at 671. The number of people whose death is attributed to the virus remains at 51, with one death reported in the last month. 

There have been 32,490 tests administered in Lubbock. Of those, 1,901 have come back positive with 590 tests pending. There were 1,494 additional tests conducted since yesterday. The positive rate of tests is 5.85 percent. Before the recent spike in cases the positive rate was trending lower, despite an increase in tests, for several days below 4.7 percent. These are total tests conducted in Lubbock, which includes some residents of other counties.

10 new hospitalizations were reported. 29 people are hospitalized with 19 floor patients and 10 in the ICU. This is the largest hospitalization increase in the past month. April 29 there were 36 patients hospitalized, the most since the start of the pandemic. 

There remains ample available hospital capacity, with more than 500 beds available.
