Mayor Pope, others call on Texans to take pandemic precautions seriously

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Mayor Pope has signed onto a letter from other Texas mayors pleading Texans to do their part. 

Citing the success of public masking in Hong Kong and Taiwan, the nine city leaders tweeted a letter directly to the people of Texas. They want everyone to wear masks and stay six feet apart. 

The main message emphasized the virus is here, infections are up and hospitals are filling up. The mayors state it's not to scare anyone, but to point out the virus doesn't just leave because the urgency has gone away. 

They wrote we have to take this seriously if the economy is to stay open and if we're going to have school, football games, concerts, theater, banquets and parades. Failure to do so, they stated, will cost all of us. 

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg tweeted out the letter:
