Friday: Lubbock at 1,208 COVID-19 cases; 549 active; 608 recoveries and 51 deaths

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock health department confirmed 72 new COVID-19 cases Friday, most of these in people in their 20s. This brings the total number of cases to 1,208. Of the total, 549 are active cases. 

Four cases of the virus were confirmed among employees of the Lubbock Police Department and three employees of the Lubbock Country Club also tested positive. 

The health department also reported 16 additional recoveries, with a total of 608 listed as recovered and 51 deaths.

The city has administered 28,823 tests. 1,452 tests have come back positive, with 215 tests pending results. This is a positive rate of five percent, with some of the tests performed here for residents of other counties. The city saw an increase from yesterday of 1,331 tests. A record number of people were tested this week following several Lubbock bars and restaurants closing after reported exposures. 

No new hospitalizations were reported. Currently, 21 people are hospitalized, with 14 floor patients and 7 in the ICU. Local hospital use remains low for COVID-19, with more than 500 beds available
