34 additional COVID-19 cases in Lubbock, most in a day since mid-April

The City of Lubbock reports 34 additional cases of COVID-19 were confirmed among the county's residents Saturday. This ties for the second-most cases confirmed since testing began in March, and is the most cases confirmed in a single day here since 34 cases were reported April 16. A key metric Governor Abbott said he is watching is the hospitalization rate. There are 10 people hospitalized in Lubbock for COVID-19, nine of these cases are in the ICU. Despite the increase in cases, Lubbock remains well below the hospital capacity.

There are now 847 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lubbock. Of these, 255 cases are active. One additional recovery Saturday brings this total to 541, meaning of the people who were tested and received a positive, they have recovered and are no longer showing symptoms. 

The local death toll remains at 51.

Despite an increase in testing, the positivity rate has been steadily declining. There were 667 more tests conducted Saturday, bringing the total to 24,399. 1,163 have returned a positive, which is 4.8 percent. There are 606 tests with results pending. Some of the tests conducted here are for residents of other counties.
