TAG Investigators arrest wanted gang member after foot pursuit

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A wanted gang member was arrested after he fled on foot from a wrecked vehicle Friday afternoon. 

Investigators with the Texas Anti-Gang Center identified Christopher Cyphers, 31, driving a white SUV near 34th Street and Toledo Ave.

Investigators say Cyphers had active felony arrest warrants for robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. Cyphers immediately took off when he saw TAG investigators and wrecked in the intersection of 34th Street and Marsha Sharp Freeway access road, according to investigators. 

Cyphers and a female passenger were seen running from the vehicle by witnesses. Investigators found Cyphers near 20th and Raleigh Ave. and was quickly caught and taken into custody. 

The passenger, Zion Vargas, 18, was found near 28th Street and Quaker Ave. and arrested. 

Cyphers is charged with evading arrest on food and possession of marijuana on top of both felony warrants. Vargas is charged with a Class C misdemeanor. 

This remains an active investigation with other criminal charges pending.
