LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lori Rice-Spearman will be appointed President of Texas Tech University's Health Sciences Center Friday.

She is the first female president in Texas Tech's history. The decision was approved by the Board of Regents.

She has served as interim president since November, when Chancellor Tedd Mitchell stepped down from that spot to focus on his other duties.

She joined TTUHSC in 1987 as an instructor in what was then the School of Allied Health Sciences.

Rice-Spreaman will become the ninth president in the university's 51 year history.
