Some bars opening up as early as midnight on Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

When the clock strikes midnight on Friday May 22nd, Rewind on Buddy Holly Avenue plans to open its doors.

"To serve as education for our employees and also to figure out the logistics on how we're going to implement and enforce all the new rules we've been given," manager Troy Mesa said.

He says he's excited to be back.
But things will be very different, thanks to mandatory guidelines from the state.

"We don't even know if anyone is going to show up. If people do show up, we can see how they react to not being able to come up to the bar, and how they're going to react to having to sit down, and be discouraged from dancing," Mesa explained.

The Blue Light, located just next door, will also re-open at midnight with live music shows planned all weekend long.

Meanwhile, McPherson Cellars could begin wine tastings on Friday, but has chosen to take a more measured approach to re-opening.

"It gives us an opportunity to just kind of, refrain and keep safe," event director Thomas Turman said. "There's been some issues in other areas that people open up right away and do every service that they offer, and they end up having to shut back down and we just don't want to do that."

Customers can still buy a bottle of wine, and sit on the patio, in small groups and with 6 feet of distance in between, but no traditional wine tasting until mid-June.

Wholesale distribution has been doing well during the shutdown.
Over the last 2 months, the wine producer has seen a 40% increase in retail sales.

"Even if it was more of a bindful spot, we would have enforced opening up slower. However it does give us more flexibility to do it in a more comfortable way," Turman explained.

The cellar's affiliated restaurant, "La Diosa" also has delayed its opening, until next week.
