Group fitness classes full since reopening

Posted: Updated:

While some gyms may have slowed down since reopening, group fitness classes are filling up quickly.

"A lot of people have kind of lost their routines and fitness and indoor cycling it's truly at your own pace," CycleBar Lubbock Franchise Owner Michelle Elder said.

CycleBar Lubbock and Orangetheory Fitness opened on Monday.

"It's been full every day," Elder said.

"Classes are booked completely for the next two weeks," Orangetheory Fitness Regional Marketing Director Morgan Finney said.

Both facility operators believe the community they've built has helped bring people back.

"There's something so powerful about that sense of community you get riding to the beat and then you pour out together and chat and connect," Elder said.

"We like to hold each other accountable to bring everyone back as that family and just to get in here and better ourselves," Finney said.

After working out about once a week at home and gaining some weight, Orangetheory Fitness member Scott Cain was ready to return.

"I never had any reservations. As soon as they were going to be open, I was going to be here," Cain said.

He said being in the same room and competing, pushes him.

"You see what other peoples rates are on the deal and you just push yourself a little bit harder," Cain said.

Instructors said it's beneficial to work out, especially during this time.

"It's not just about losing weight, it could be just stress in your life, it helps with sleep," Orangetheory Fitness Regional Sales & Operations Dylan Bostick said.

To practice social distancing, space is limited.
