Pandemic could change how we see personal finances

Financial experts say you should still have an emergency fund, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Staying at home and eating out less may have already helped save you some money. Financial planners say about $1,000 in savings is a good start and can come in handy, especially during an emergency.

However, nearly half of Americans have less $1,000 or no savings at all.

As businesses begin to open back up, experts believe the health crisis could have an impact on the way we see personal finances going forward. 

"So I think having wider opened eyes is going to be something that we'll see in the future," Jessica Starr, financial copywriter for Insurify, said. "I think the pandemic has showed us cracks in our system, so I think people are going to be more understanding of how difficult it is to find spaces in our budget for saving."
