News release from Lubbock Police Department:

The Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating an overnight crash following a pursuit by a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Shortly after midnight, the LSO deputy stopped a Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation in the area of 82nd Street and Avenue P. The deputy was going to arrest the driver of the Corolla, 21-year-old Jihad Pollard, for an outstanding warrant, but Pollard fled and evaded the deputy. A short pursuit traveled south on Avenue P from 82nd Street to 98th Street, and continued through a red light at 98th Street. Pollard lost control and traveled into the field west of Avenue P and south of 98th Street, rolling several times.

Pollard was transported by EMS to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

This portion of Avenue P at 98th Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for crash investigation.
