LEA COUNTY, New Mexico -

Three Hobbs men have been arrested and charged accused of kidnapping and beating a man in an attempt to rob him.

On May 11, Lea County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a robbery near South Turner Street and White Street.

The victim told deputies he had been held captive since May 10 and beaten by three male suspects. He told investigators Irvin Chacon, 27, told him he was having car trouble and Chacon invited the victim to his home.

Upon entering the home, the victim told deputies he saw two unidentified women and Omar Cruz, 24. Investigators report Cruz became angry and told the victim to give him his money. When the victim said he didn't have any money, Cruz and Chacon then held the victim down and used a belt and extension cord to tie him up and covered his eyes with blue tape, according to investigators. Investigators say they then began beating the victim with their fists.

The victim told deputies Chacon and Cruz began striking him with pistols, threatened to shoot him and continued to demand money. Investigators say another man, later identified as Guadalupe Rojero, 24, entered the home and joined Cruz and Chacon in beating the victim.

According to Lea County Sheriff's Investigators, the men forced the victim into a suitcase and threw it onto the living room floor. Since the victim had no money, investigators report Chacon demanded the titles to the victim's vehicles.

Later, deputies report Chacon and Cruz drove the victim to his residence. Cruz and Chacon saw what they believed to be a police cruiser near the victim's home and returned to Chacon's home, according to deputies.

The victim told deputies Chacon and Cruz accused him of contacting the police and continued to beat him and was later forced into the trunk of Chacon's car. Investigators say about four hours later, Chacon and Cruz untied the victim so he could obtain the vehicle titles from inside his home.

The victim told investigators Cruz instructed him to give him the keys to his car and complied. Investigators say Cruz followed Chacon when his car broke down and Cruz left left the keys in the ignition when he got out to help Chacon. The victim was able to jump into the driver's seat and drive away where he was able to wave down a Hobbs Police Officer a few blocks away.

Chacon and Cruz were arrested on the following charges:

• three counts of kidnapping
• two counts of armed robbery
• aggravated battery
• Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle

Rojero was arrested and charged with accessory to wit kidnapping.
