Nail salon adjusts to follow state orders

Posted: Updated:

It's been almost a week since salons have opened back up. Bellagio Nails & Medispa adjusted to follow state orders and the Owner, Rebecca Kizer, said it was time to open.

"We can't look like hoodlums, that's just not very professional," Kizer said.

Since it was allowed to open before anticipated, Kizer hired two schedulers immediately to help with the influx of clients.

"I was having so many calls, I was having to ignore them and just have a voicemail on and then once we opened it got even crazier because they got word," Kizer said.

Despite the risk, all of the Nail Technicians came back to work with smiles on their faces, covered by masks.

"We could have lost them because they would have to go somewhere else, they would have to figure something out," Kizer said.

Appointments are mandatory, no guests allowed, temperatures are taken, everyone must wash their hands before picking out a color and the stations are cleaned after each visit.

"They don't want to get sick, they want to be healthy and keep their families healthy," Kizer said.

It has been an adjustment, but the staff has worked through the kinks.

"Being remote it was difficult because we weren't sitting here and the techs would take them and then they would get backed up," Kizer said.

Kizer said customers have been compliant and just happy to get their nails done.

"I tell you what, they're all proud to wear masks and they're all proud to get in," Kizer said.

Although not considered "essential," she feels people have grown a higher appreciation for nail services.

"When it was cut off from them and they couldn't just walk in and get it when they wanted it and it made them a lot more patient when they could get it, they realized how high in demand it is," Kizer said.

The next phase of openings is expected on Monday with offices within office buildings, non-essential manufacturers and gyms. That's all pending an announcement from Governor Abbott.
