LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech Chancellor Dr. Tedd Mitchell says the nation must do an autopsy of its response to the coronavirus.

He says that's the best way to figure out the future of health care. His discussion was part of a Lubbock Chamber of Commerce webinar on medicine after COVID-19.

"This is a concept that's useful for rural areas, its useful for urban areas. This has shown us through the coronavirus pandemic that this is something that we can as a nation do," Dr. Mitchell said. "This is something that as a nation we should embrace, and this is something that as a nation makes economic sense for us."

Dr. Mitchell says the university has been one of the nations leaders in developing telemedicine since before the outbreak.

Tech hosted its first telehealth consult in 1990 and has held thousands since.

That resource has provided health care to people in rural areas where it is not readily accessible.
