LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Lubbock grand jury indicted a man for causing a crash while driving under the influence last June.

Dennis Pease is charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

A Lubbock police officer responded to a crash with injuries near 19th Street and Slide Rd.

Witnesses told the officer Pease ran through a red light into oncoming traffic. Witnesses said Pease pulled directly in front of the victim and she was unable to avoid the crash.

The police report indicates Pease had passed out at the wheel following the crash.

The responding officer reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from Pease and showed signs of intoxication. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and Pease was arrested.

When told the victim was injured, Pease told the officer "he made a really bad mistake".

If convicted, Pease faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
