Council to evaluate city's budget after drop in sales taxes due to pandemic

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock's city council will evaluate its budget during Tuesday's work session.

Mayor Dan Pope says financially the city's okay despite a drop in sales taxes.

The city suffered a 5% loss in revenue from last month.

During the city's COVID-19 update Monday morning, Mayor Pope said council had braced for 10%.

The April revenues are mostly based off sales done in March. Comptroller Glenn Hegar expects next month's revenue to be substantially less since most stay-at-home orders didn't go into effect until the last couple weeks of March.
