Mother's Day celebrated door-to-door

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The mentor moms at Parent Life could not celebrate Mother's Day like usual.

So they brought a little something door-to-door.

"A lot of them are single moms and they have little ones so they don't really have somebody to make sure that they're treated special for their one day a year," Elizabeth Davis said.

The program provides emotional support for teen moms and dads.

"We have a dinner, like a nice sit down dinner that's catered. We usually bring in a motivational speaker and somebody to share encouraging words, and then we have like a spa night, where there's different stations they can go around and get pampered for the night," Director Renee Morales said.

Morales alongside her family prepared the gift bags for the 29 moms they serve on Sunday.

"They're each going to get 2 sugar cookies, that are decorated really pretty, then they're going to get a little bouquet of flowers and a framed verse," Morales said.

There was also some make-up and a 3-course dinner provided by Woody's Brick Oven Pizza.
All donated by businesses and neighbors, including a kitchen-savvy nurse who loves to bake after Morales reached out on Facebook for help.

"I really did not expect to get any response at all knowing how much of a struggle it is for everybody right now," Morales said. "Really encouraging and such a blessing to see people giving even when their future is uncertain right now."

The moms and their mentors haven't been able to meet together in weeks so this was a much needed in-person visit.

"I'm trying not to cry. I miss seeing them face to face. A lot of them are a little more isolated, going through some harder times with not having a job and things so I think this is really special to them, today," Davis said.
