Three additional cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed among Lubbock County residents Sunday. This brings the total to 592. Of those people who were tested and received a positive, 235 cases are considered active, 308 people have recovered.

Sunday continued the trend in place through May, where the number of new cases confirmed is in the single digits, despite an increase in testing. Public health director Katherine Wells said last week it will take about one to two weeks after businesses re-open to see if there is an effect on numbers. Restrictions were eased for many businesses across the state May 1; other businesses, including barber shops and hair salons, were allowed to re-open Friday.

The total number of people whose death is attributed to COVID-19 remains at 49.

There have now been more than 10,000 tests conducted in Lubbock. The number of positives is 7.6 percent of tests conducted, a total of 775 positives with 58 tests pending. Some of these tests are for people who live outside Lubbock County.
